stereotypical chracters in television.

"We all know the stereotypes—the femme fatale, the supermom, the sex kitten, the nasty corporate climber. Whatever the role, television, film and popular magazines are full of images of women and girls who are typically white, desperately thin, and made up to the hilt—even after slaying a gang of vampires or dressing down a Greek phalanx." - http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/issues/stereotyping/women_and_girls/

Alot of girls- young women see these characters in movie tv shows and magazines and feel as though they need to be the way that the characters are. there is alot of pressure for girls and women to be this way as the male eye finds it more attractive. girls in tv are seen with short skirts, skimpy tops and dresses and high heels, they show alot of skin, legs and clevage and this makes them more popular with alot of the audience. seeing these types of people everyday and everywhere make alot of women self consious and feeling the need to be the way that the girls in the media are.

  1. An interesting issue, and one that seems to get worse each year. I watched a program this week about girls as young as ten getting cosmetic surgery. You could develop this idea into a response to the article you linked to, and look out for the issue in other text you read/view this year. P.S 'a lot' is two separate words.
